I have tried to access the ovi store via the n900 running the firmware version 2.2009.51-1.205.1. I have just tried to update and the software updater says I'm running the latest version.

Now i try to access the ovi store and i get the "Please update your device to Maemo 5 and Try Again" HOWEVER what it tells me to do is go to

Menu/More/App Manager and tap update then install maemo 5.

IT IS NOT THERE IN THE LIST WHat IS GOING ON

i would like to get on the app store.

any ideas

It depends on how you want to do it. There is a very good how to here
http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

Basically you can update the firmware yourself using a PC and usb cable. Lots of people on here do it quite regular so there is minimal risk.
Be sure to read the wiki right through and follow all the instructions to the letter.
It looks daunting but if you break it down into steps it is relatively straight forward and takes around 15mins.

Built in software updater is WRONG , latest version is 10.2010.19-1 . Try Nokia Software updater or flash via maemo-flasher

Vodafone must approve the firmware update before it's released, I would flash to the UK release or the Global release. Read more here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

The latest Nokia Software Updater should be compatible with 64bit operating systems. Just download it from your local Nokia site.

Flasher is known to have problems on 64bit Windows systems.

I guess this should work. If it does not, just download the latest Ubuntu version and use the Linux version of maemo-flasher.
