Now that PR 1.2 is here, anybody want to develop live wallpapers?

Yes, this live homescreen will 'fix' this bug. Will be available in pr1.2.

It's going to allow any window (even xv) to be either in front (with transparency) or in the background of the home screen. you will also receive clicks. So, you can develop now and when we release the support, you can convert your window to be a live wallpaper pretty quickly. Happy hacking!

nothing has come of this, maybe live wallpapers didnt cone with PR1.2 afterall?

I think it was just a bugfix that didn't allow a video to be played as a background with clickable widgets and what not. So you could've done it before but you just couldn't click anything. If my interpretation is correct the bugfix allows you to play a video in the background now as a "live wallpaper" while still allowing you access to widgets and what not.

there is already a proof of concept in extras but at this moment I will take a day worth of battery rather than the live wallpaper unless nokia does some magical in pr1.3

In case anyone was wondering, this is the example live wallpaper in Extras-Devel (usual warnings apply)

http://maemo.org/packages/view/xsnow/

Don't download if you're not comfortable venturing into Devel.

I would like a live image from the net like a doppler or traffic cam. That would be useful... Christmas in June is cute though.

I'll have to see how this program finds its background file and then see if it can be changed to an http addy instead.
