My N900 has suffered someproblem that first saw Phone and Contacts crashing every time I tried t open them. I rebooted the phone and now it's stuck in a rebooting cycle

Numerous threads I've read on the matter say the only thing I can do is reflash the phone

How do I back up the data on it so I can restore it (contacts and sms mostly) after I flash?

Phone is currently on PR1.1 - was thinkng of moving to 1.2, or would you advise trying reflashing 1.1 first?

Thanks

Use the backup app

Contacts and SMS should be preserved through a flash naturally. At least they have been for me everytime I've flashed, and I've done it about four times.

Also, if you're flashing, might as well go straight to PR1.2.

What flashing method did you use? Did you flash the eMMC as well? Are contacts/sms storedin a place other than the eMMC?

Flash your device with the Fiasco image only to get it back to working state (you will not lose your contacts this way) then do a backup using the backup app in the device, save that backup to your memory card before you do the Emmc flash.

assumig the FIASCO image is just the "RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin" file (why is it sometimes called fiasco and sometimes not?) is it safe to ignore the warning:

NOTE: Always flash the FIASCO image first, then the eMMC image immediately after that. Never boot up the device between flashing the FIASCO image and the eMMC image!
Should I be putting 1.1 on first in order to do backup or is it safe to go to 1.2 straight away? Is the eMMC i have, tied to the v1.1 on the device at the moment?

thanks
