I don't want to step on any toes, but most of the threads in both sections have to do with software. We already have OS2007 and OS2008, so software wise, there is no additional benefits to be gained for additional software boards for n800 and n810.
This indicates that the point of those two sections is hardware discussion. There are some minor benefits to having two sections for discussion on hardware, the disadvantages of encouraging questions which are applicable to both systems in two different sections by segregating them seem to me to outweigh the gains. Also, many hardware issues are applicable to both systems, but new users will not necessarily understand this.
General questions which maybe better asked in a software section, though are not being done so now because of ambiguity in section titling run the risk of going unanswered.
At the least, if the sections cannot be aggregated into a single one, I would request that another be added called general hardware. And the n800 and n810 be explicitly named hardware issues only pertaining to those devices. with the subcategory making it clear what hardware features are only featured on the respective device.
This would hopefully give more exposure to questioners and resolve issues more efficiently.
To back this argument up i've compiled a list of recent thread titles which would easily fit in a more general section. This is 14 out of 20 of the threads.
gstmjpg: a litte help?
Clean up tool
gphoto2 + canon 20d + n810 = chunky super unstable eyefi
Tuning the n810 - Alpha work
VNC Behaviour
N810: How do you carry yours?
Display of Network Traffic
Shoutcast Internet Radio
usb otg with an ipod???
n810 screen cracked
StarDict Problem
Linux Disto
Automatic screen rotate for N810
24 Hour Clock on N810?
The n800 section is similar except almost all of the threads are general.
Hmm... interesting. At first I thought this was a terrible idea, but thinking about it you're quite right that many threads belong in both sections because of the N800 and N810 hardware being nearly identical.
By keeping separate sections, a lot of users may be missing out on useful information, and some discussions will be needlessly duplicated.
This merger might be worth considering?
I don't think the name should be "hardware" because there's also the 770 tablet whose hardware is very different, and presumably the N900 will also be very different. But the sections could still be merged as "N800 and N810" or something like that.
