Lots of ppl said they expect Meego update on N900 in future, why?is it(Meego) realy good that lots of users bragging their rights n' swearing they will ditch Nokia and Nokia will be broke!ha ha ha(maybe thats why their share is falling down) i saw some clips bout Meego which is 'ok' and it is more raw then Maemo5 plus cartoonese,(maybe now they target new user from cartoon network),there is lots of things N900 handle better then anyother handset(smartphone, mini computer'''''''' tablet'''''')this is a most advance device(portable) i ever used, when we (everybody) baught N900 they didnot promise us to update Meego(crazy name why not chiko or dickgo or nokia inside)OS,Nokia will suport their customer no matter what we whine or cry plus Market for N900 is not big enough to dent Nokia's image coz they earn more then hundred times from symbian phone which lots of ppl said old.
Linux users r fragmented like a broken glass, they have a crazy and funny name OS and this will be same forever,Nokia and intel makes Meego and for Maemo5 user it is ruining there 'eego'
Plz take no offence reading this, just fade up with complaining, whining users

Are you on speed? What's your question?

Linux isn't fragmented - the kernel is pretty much the same from distro to distro. It's the software stack on top of that which can be fragmented, and, more importantly for mobile devices, the GUI.
So if Meego presents a more widely adopted framework for cross-platform applications, then why not use it?
I think that's answered your question, but then again I can't be sure.

Exactly, that guy should take it a little easier on the drugs...or at least attend some English class.

"Why Meego?"

It's either:
(1) Since the firmware update (PR1.2) maemo has matured nicely and is now stable. Ideally more people can write apps for it knowing maemo is in a good state and now mature. Nokia thinks it is uncool. It is available now.

or

(2) install meego on the n900 (not officially supported) but the "usable" version will be out in October. This does the same thing as maemo except the UI is still being developed. Nobody is sure if maemo apps will run on it (without modification) and also means meego is nowhere near stable as maemo. A usable version will be available in the future.

Also, Nokia decided to rename maemo to meego because it sounds cooler.

People are wondering if maemo is a viable environment to write software for and I imagine commercial developers are waiting (e.g. not writing any software for maemo) until there is a clearer picture of where Nokia are taking the platform.

(1) Maemo is working and finally understood. People are using it.
(2) Meego is still in a state of development. Nobody is able to use it.

Nokie decided to go with number (2).

I have to admire Nokia's attitude towards the whole smartphone market and wanting to try something a little different.

Every other smartphone manufacturer now have a stable platform where anyone can write software. As more software is available the platform/smartphone becomes more popular and manufacturers make more money. People like to buy stuff and this is proven with the different app stores that now exist making money for the manufacturers as well as software authors.
Everyone is happy.

Nokia would rather have a product that is in a perpetual state of development. When the product becomes stable and usable (e.g. boring and dull) Nokia decide to re-invent everything again. The OVI site is Nokia's app store but Nokia likes websites to be dynamic (doesn't everyone?) and like Nokia products is always in a state of perpetual development.
Nobody is happy.

Nokia have this radical idea of charging people to download software but have discovered it is too difficult. Luckily nobody else has thought of it and that's ok.

The n900 & maemo is "step 4 of 5". Nobody knows what step 5 is but I think it means "go to step 1".

(for a serious answer search Attila77's posts - they actually contain meaningful & informed content)

For me MeeGo signifies a platform that has longevity and that's hopefully the perfect mix of having the power of Maemo while serving everything in a more user friendly UI.

The only doubts I have about MeeGo are:

1.) Will it bee too user friendly. If user-friendliness means less tweakable, then to me this is a bad thing. I'd rather have a messier UI but more power over what I do with the device.

2.) Nokia will somehow anyway "clamp down" their version of MeeGo, so that the Nokia MeeGo device still relies on software updates customized for this device only. I fear that the reason for this kind of clamping down is the Harmattan UI. Probably totally off here however.

Actually that second doubt is more about Nokia's MeeGo device and not MeeGo.

Because it's there. Well, not yet.

And yeah, lay off the drugs. You don't seem to be good at it.

my love
meego isnt a cellphone
its an operating system..
which can probably run more efficiently then the failed maemo
thats why users are so excited
"there is lots of things N900 handle better then anyother handset(smartphone, mini computer'''''''' tablet'''''')this is a most advance device" <----------- this is the hardware capabilities.. meego will provide software features..
and oh.. you're dumb.. get ur facts straight first
