My micro-usb port is broken.

I am having serious problems with the Conversations app.

Unless it is possible to re-install that specific application, it seems the best solution is to somehow restore my device to a virgin state. (Ie. reflash)

However!!! My micro-usb port is broken. So is it possible to do this on the device??

Edit: I bought the N900 travelling in the UK, but I live in New Zealand. It is only covered by a Nokia Europe warranty, but I guess I can go to Nokia Care in my city and find out how much it might cost to fix! But It's not available here, so it's probably very expensive or impossible!

I am also curious if it is possible to flash via microSD

The microUSB port on our loaner device broke, but is still somewhat usable with an external charger.

I am unfortunately not able to contribute to the flashing problem.
But regarding the broken USB-Port:

In case you do not get it fixed at Nokia NZ, it COULD be possible to fix it for somebody who is relatively skilled, IF the PCB is not broken and the soldering pads are still there. As there is no warranty anyway...

Search for somebody skilled with a soldering iron plus the N900 Level 1+2 or Level 3+4 Service manuals in the internet. There are instructions on how to disassemble the N900. If you take good care, you should be able to get it fixed by a skilled person.

I am expierenced in soldering and would try to do it for you, but I think its a loooong way, unfortunately Again, I do not want to encourage anybody to break his device. My first answer would be 'send it back for warranty repair'. But in this case...

Best regards,
Corwin

@Corwin

That sounds like an idea indeed.

I might message you about this later for some tips, if that's ok with you?

buy a new usb. lol xD I don't know. Maybe somehow via xterminal, but i think it would require something like two OSes. Like you log on the second os and then reflash the first one via xterminal, then log on the first os, and delete the second one.

Install backupmenu and rsestore from a clean image. A fellow member (can't remeber who) has clean images hosted somewhere.

Sorry for not being able to pinpoint them for you but I hope I pointed in the right direction.

Another solution I thought, but never tested is to install ubuntu on the sd, copy the flasher binary from maemo root and flash the official rootfs image from there.
