So today I went to Tmobile store looking to get a phone for my GF.

I'm thinking of getting her the nexus one, I like android and I would like to play with it a bit (I have an N900 my self and love it). So they have the HTC HD2 on display and I was telling her how win mobile 6.5 and wont get upgraded to win 7 so its a dead end phone vs Android and what not.. (no flames please)

Anywho.. the tmobile rep comes up and says that the HD2 is going to have an "over the air" update available to get.. wait for it... Android, and he was not sure if it was going to be dual booted (he made the comparison of his mac running windows in bootcamp) or if its going to be flashable as main OS. the other rep there agreed.

I havent heard anything of this anywhere and I read Engadget and other tech forums oftenly and this came out of the blue for me.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

If so maybe HD2 could be a better buy than the nexus one, just saying..

That guy sounds like an idiot, you should get it on paper so when the HD2 doesn't get android you can sue.

In all seriousness it's probably just some dorky guy who heard that from his friend. Don't count on it.

Sprint would be pissed because it would eat into their Revo sales, HTC wouldn't do that to one of it's clients.

Windows mobile 6.5 to android over the air sounds very unlikely.

I'll post more info tomorrow

i was interested in HD2 if it was on android. Not sure it can be flashed onto android if it was on Win mo 6.5.

Ive got a desire on order at the moment because HTC dont seem to be doing much with the HD2. Supersonic/Evo looks to be the one but as its only going to US sprint in the summer Im assuming it wont be available to the rest of us for a long time.

did you ever get an update from the guy at tmobile? i had an HD2 & hated the WM6.5 so returned it. now using a samsung VIBRANT but i miss my FLASH for video & pics. i wish they would sell the NEXUS one at tmobile which has everything! I would totally buy another HD2 if it could get ANDROID!! the HD2 would be complete with ANDROID. the samsung VIBRANT is good, but isnt complete without a FLASH! also the samsung GALAXY S has 8mp camera, my VIBRANT came with only 5mp boo tmobile!

Not sure if it is fully functional or stable yet, but the HD2 has had some development with several versions of android running. Check out the guys at xda-developers who have custom roms and dual booting with froyo. Been considering getting one of these myself to play with if my n900 didn't already satisfy that need with NITDroid.

i think Dr.Marcial is right. i was told the same thing today that tmobile will have an android update for the hd2. as for android roms, i suggest u don't bother with it unless u really know wut ur doing, u can really screw up ur hd2, it also voids ur warranty. if tmobile really does issue this android update then i say wait for that. there may be some life left in the almighty HD2!!! I love and hate my hd2 at the same time but android would eliminate the hate!!!
