My N900 that i have been using in India suddenly seems to have lost all IMEI information from it. typing the customary *#06# does not display the IMEI at all. is there any way i may get the phone to display the IMEI again? any software hack?

Open the menu >> settings >> About. The IMEI should be displayed there. If not it is also writen on the battery (or below battery).

missing from here too now!

@others
the IMEI info is very much present below the battery, just that it does not seem to be stored any longer on the device! this is causing my SIM to get rejected. IMEI is mandatory to have in India.

I believe it's wise to obscure mac addresses, IMEI etc when showing things like that

Here:
Getting the IMEI from About has always worked, even on devices running pre-release firmware.

PR 1.1 added the ability to be able to view the IMEI using "*#06#".

I'd also remove the IMEI and MAC addresses from those pictures...
