Hi , i am new to n900
its been like 6 days , and i cudnt install few of the apps from app manager like cute file manager , appdownloader, crochik contacts,conversation widget etc...

and i read on sum other forum to solve dis problem through x-terminal

so i installed rootsh and typed
sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install "anyappname"

it worked and then at the end its sayed not enough memory in E to install

so i googled it and following sum idiots advice i typed few commands in x terminal
like :-
mkdir /var/cache/apt/archives/ and sum more but i dont remember all of it .
and i did stupidity to close the web page of that site .. and cudnt find that again

so after typing his instruction in x-term.

wen i download any app from app manager
it says operation failed

and in x terminal wen installing any app by doing all the root commands it says
and /var/cache/apt/archive/ directory in E is missing

so plzz u guys are real pros

is there any command to type in xterminal to undo this thing and make the directory available again

plz i want to solve dis widout flashing my n900

i dont want to loose my data

the phone works perfectly
only problem is that i cant download any app from app manager or maemo.org web site or thru x terminal commands anymore

plz help meee

I believe that you filled up the application partition. I recommending you to make a backup now and then reflash your eMMC with the latest Vanilla image. This will clean out everything in eMMC and so you can reinstall it again later from the backup.

There is no other way to solve your issue. Since you've done something to your device, we do not see your device either, so my only suggestion is to reflash your eMMC and may be OS too.

Okay before you reflash can you type this into your Xterminal:

Xterminal:
df -h

show the output here and it really make it easier for one of us here to help you out.

in /var/cache/apt/archives
there are 2 files:
lock and partial

mkdir = make directory, I think you created something and moved something by the look of it.

you might of deleted those files or modified it. That's why you get the error.

first of all thanx for your advice

but when im typingdf -h
it shows many directories wid their info like size,used,available,

so wat shud i tell you from this info of wich directory ...

under the Moun info i find only one word that matches with what i wrote that messed up my phone is/var

shud i post the details of that one

???????

i will flash it but m hoping to figure out altho i believe the only way is flashing now

and i if i flash my n900

what shud i do first to make all apps work in my n900..

i can download few of them while others like (crochic contacts,appdownloader,conversation widget and sum many others)shows error of "conflicting with app. packages" unable to install.

i dont get what shud i do ..
and how to check on wich firmware im on ....
bcz i flashed my mobile previously , onda second day when i cudnt find my songs and vdz while they were loaded .. so i flashed it with pr 1.2

and some web sites says this error of conflicting with app packages is due to the older fw version
so im on the latest .. even then it duznt download the apps..

i hope u can find sum help so i dont have to flash my n900

if i do , then i want your help so i can download all the apps from app manager .....
