is it me or is it my phone

i recently got these 9mm driver earphones http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921666001159

and when i plug them it it makes a really high pitch sound and basically its not working out

but the 3.5mm earphones seem to work fine

i tried this on my brothers Nexus Google phone and it works fine

does anyone know what the issue is here?

Not sure but maybe included in-line remote control that is compatible with iDevices causes issues and since N900 is very picky with that kind of hardware it doesnt work

isn't the i -version incopatible with the standard (don't know if even the standarf implementation would work in n900 though...)
