Hey all

what's the best/simplest way of getting movies onto my phone. have a load of dvd's and was wondering if it's possible to "burn" them to my phone

You need some converter or DVD ripper tool, e.g. Handbrake.
Just convert to a MP4 with resolution not higher than 800x480 and the N900 ought to be able to play it.

thanks. one last question. if I plug the phone into my tv can I record whatevers on the tv to the phone?

No you cant cause N900 doesn't receives signal to the jack..it only sends from the jack afaik.
it also wont make your coffee :P

You can play .VOB files directly on the phone.
I was able to view even those too hard for GUI players with this script:

mplayer -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all -ni -autosync 10 -framedrop $1
(assuming you have mplayer and ffmpeg)

let us know what dvd ripper/converter you find, and if its any good. I am interested in doing this too...

I´ve been using handbrake: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

I use Iphone/Ipod Touch settings H.264 codec and set it to 720 in width or 480 in height, which ever will maximize both height and width without being larger in dimensions than the N900 can support.

I usually burn the subtitles into the images. Looks very good on the N900 screen.
