I am a new Nokia N900 user and made an earlier post regarding offline maps on N900.

All I want is an app to view maps on, thats all! What I need right now is a simple guide how to to this. All map applications that I've tested ask for an internet connection immediately. That's not what I want!

I would be thankful if anyone could give me an easy explanation in how to view maps on my N900, without using any connection.

Go to the menu->Settings->Location scroll down a bit to network positioning and uncheck enable.

More or less in trying to get a location lock it tries to use towers to help position it, but it needs to know where each tower id is. So it needs a network connection to do that. It will work without one, just slower to find your position.

Then you can simply load maps into OVI maps (through the windows uploader or whatever) and you are done.

mappero also lets you pre-download tiles for later offline use.
