I've this problem with my N900 :
sometimes my N900 doesn't alert me for sms (and missed calls, probably IMs, ...) (nothing, no sound, no light, nothing happens in the phone, BUT, if I myself open that person's conversation, the sms will be there), but when I restart it, it shows that I have for example 3 SMSs and 1 missed call and works fine after restart for some time!
I've upgraded it to 1.2 and I've installed a LOT of applications.
so, what's the problem?
what should I do?

Interesting.

I have a number of times received notifications about SMS after having restarted my phone.

But i have never thought about checking if it was just the notification that was missing and the SMS had been received already. I have always assumed that it was the SMS receive function that regularly died on my phone.

Maybe some of those apps you've installed have control over your notifications, calls etc.

I have had the same error myself, but a reboot fixed it.

Have you installed the updated pulseaudio package (that is supposed to fix audio stuttering)?

It is known that a side effect of that package is that sometimes notification sounds/vibration doesn't work. Uninstalling that package fixes the issue.

For me, I'm not talking about any vibration/sound.

I'm talking about not getting any yellow notification windows telling me I should call in to check voice messages. After I restart the phone, I suddenly get these notification windows.

Next time it happens, I will have to check closer if I can figure out if it was just the notification window that was msising or if the phone didn't retrieve the SMS until I restarted the phone.

I have the same problem sometimes. It happens especially when i send a sms and receive one immediately back. Most of the time it works as expected. I don't have any low level packages installed (like pulsaudio package or alternate kernel).

@ASIAN
I think so!

@Marcus
what kind of reboot?
but if the problem is from an app, I think that's not necesary.

@generationally
no.
and as pwm said, problem is not lack of sounds/vibration!

@robbie
I'm used to send and receive a lot of SMSs daily, but I had not figured that out!
but the question is what has caused this bug/problem?! an application? which one?

there is a bug about the message log disappering sometimes
does that happen with you guys??

if not then do you all have "call notify" app installed?
its the first thing that pops in mind when it comes to notifying
and it might be the problem

@bakuur
What's the "message log"?
no, i don't have "call notify" app.
I have these apps installed that may be the cause :
"babyphone"
"Call forwarding applet"
"Cellular Modem Control Buttons"
"Custom Operator Name Widget"
"Extended Call Log"
"glogarchive"
"Google Voice plugin for Conversations and Calls"
"K9 Call"
"Scout"

I've a LOT more apps installed, but these can be related ones I think.
