if you have to ask its not something you will understand. basically its a data packet viewer, you use it for inspecting network traffic.

I typed your thread title into Google, and lo and behold came across the Wireshark site. A couple of clicks later and I find a section called "Wireshark User's Guide".

If you aren't capable of doing that yourself, Wireshark is absolutely not the software for you...

Sorry to sound like an arrogant git, but are you really expecting someone to spoon-feed you instructions for this complex piece of software which minutes ago you didn't even know what it was?

Then you must be expecting someone to spoon-feed you instructions for this complex bit of software which minutes ago you didn't even know what it was.

Glad we've got that one sorted.

Sincerely,
Arrogant git.

It's a network packet analyzer. Try downloading the PC version and you can capture network packets from the capture menu. You can capture and view packets over your ethernet, wireless interfaces if you have them on your PC.

Didn't know there was a maemo version of wireshark.

What are you trying to do with wireshark anyway? I use it at work for network debugging, its not all that great for much else.
