Having now moved house I no longer have a land line so no broad band connection. I have been using my phone via the USB OTA connection and this works fine, but the transfer rate is slow (43KB/sec - to slow to stream the BBC iplayer for example). Whist I can d/l on my N900 at 1.7 MB/sec - I can't share at that speed, and I can't get iplayer to work on my N900 either!

I realise there are wifi versions that will allow me to setup my N900 as a hotspot, but I can't install the free version (tells me I have the incorrect version), and I'm unsure if the paid for version is much better (the install problem might be due to using Power Kernel on my N900). However, if I were to go down this path, will the connection be any faster (i.e. is the modem rate capped by the software, or is it a fundemental feature?).

If I could only get wifi to work at full speed then I'd be a very happy bunny. I could also use Bluetooth on my laptop, if that makes things any better.

Cheers

BT

I think WiFi is easier, so I give you the the method of establishing Bluetooth-PAN only: [HOWTO] N900 Bluetooth-PAN Tethering (N900 supplies Internet Access for PC)

I have a similar issue, but its recent. I used to have great speeds on my pc when tethered, but now it has almost no connection, while the phone has a great connection.
