Nokia just announced more job cuts. 3500 to lose their jobs. 1300 jobs from R&D and 2200 factory jobs. Factory in Cluj, Romania to close down completly. Remaining European production facilities will be closed later have their roles redefined. Nokia will waste 500 million euros on recapitalizing Nokia Siemens Networks.

All point to excellent progress in the execution of new strategy, according to Elop. The ghost of George Orwell was heard complimenting Elop on his excellent command of Newspeak.

They say it's better to do it on a Friday. Lower chance of "incidents".

If you actually look at some of the historical lay offs they do happen on the end of the work day. Either Friday or Thursday depending on if you look at a business that follows 5-8's or 4-10's

[Paranoid] It's almost like someone grew envious of Finland and its top-notch education and IT, and for this reason threw SElop to ruin them all [/Paranoid]
OK, I'll take my pills...

Indeed. Usages such as "...align its operations and workforce in its manufacturing operations..." and "...adjustments to supply chain operations is estimated to impact approximately 2,200 employees...." and "Nokia will seek to aid the impacted employees..." underscore the ugliness of Corporate Newspeak. And the fear of saying what's really happening. And the idiocy of imagining no one notices.

Pretty devastating for Romania. Economy isn't great to begin with and that one Nokia factory was:

1,3% Romania's total national GDP (insane!)
5% of Romanian exports
20% of Romania's High-Tech industry.

+ Few months ago Elop said that the Elopcalypse cuts were enough and there wouldn't be any new big cuts.

On Friday we had another idiot saying that these cuts are the last ones, altough anyone with half a brain can read what they said about future plans in Europe and realise that in January at latest there are going to be more of "aligning of operations and workforce".

nokia's factory located at Jucu ( Cluj -Romania) have made 100.000.000 phones in 3 years
phone number 100 million was Nokia C3
about 500 people had given their resignation from the opening Jucu factory because hard working and low payment ( 100 - 150 euro average ) . former employee said that nokia taking money from wages transportation, coffee and meals.luckily no one was killed simself as Foxconn factory in China (apple maker)
let do some math - starting 500 employees an final 2200 give an average 1300 employees >> 1300 x 12 month x 3 years x 150 euro payment = ~7 mil euro for 100 mil phones . 7 euro / phone .
let say maximum ( very large estimation ) 20 mil euro payment for 3 year of working for 1600 milion turnover / year ( 2010 )
corporate greed ?
August 23, 2011 - The financial data published by the company shows that Romania Nokia business exploded in 2010 with an increase of 56%
but elop must bury nokia & simbian, if i was steve jobs I would have thought for a large revenue for elop . he is doing his job very well.
