You most probably lose kernel power (I did )

If everything is set up correctly, it should install indian firmware if you are from India

ok my dumb question now...I'd look on these boards but I have such bad connectivity today (it lets me through like one in five due to high traffic). I never flashed as I got the device after pr 1.2 so this is all new to me...

I installed nokia pc suite which the details of the update tell me to do and connected the phone via usb to the laptop...

1) if I just follow the instructions, what will I lose? I have lots of pictures and video's that I am going to copy to my pc first, but of course I could miss some...will I lose that? I also spent a lot of time getting custom stuff on my phone such as a desktop that could lock, custom shortcuts for the terminal and the power kernel. will l lose all of these (don't care bout the kernel as I assume I can just reinstall that correct?

also what the heck does this mean? I have the phone plugged in (have not hit the continue yet from the update manager on the phone) and nokia pc suite says "unfortunately you phone is not fuly supported by noika pc suite".

does everybody get this message? I do have an n900 don't I???

thanks and I would look at lots of threads but the site is just too damm slow today...

ok so just follow the instructions and at some point it will ask me if I want to flash the emmc (the 32 gb partition correct) and say no at that point?

I got the maemo5 update message and told me to do it through pc using ovi suite. taking a backup now but i doubt my back can cover year's worth of stuff, dual booting to android and power kernal settings. Since i've stopped using this since 2 months after i got my iphone4 i will risk updating it.

As far as my experience goes, you won't lose your data but your settings when you flash your device. That means that you may have to reconfigure your email accounts and so on but you won't lose the pictures or whatever you have on your phone.

Don't know about the Ovi Suite as I do not have one... for this release I installed OTA (over the air) and didn't need a thing and for the previous times I used the flasher on Linux... sorry about that

Exactly

By the way, it's easier if you install OTA... remove some programs (games usually fill in rootfs space) and try to upgrade OTA.

If you still can't, then go for the Ovi Suite option

thanks for the response, am I doing something wrong then? the update tells me I need pc suite, is this a regional thing meaning here in the usa I might not be able to do over the air? I sure would like to just do it that way if possible...
