Hi, I copied some files from my N900 to a Dell Streak's (2.1) SD card. Hot-swapping on the N900 while switching the droid off. The problem is that the droid says the SD card is corrupted and cannot access it with file manager or other apps (didn't try xterm), even though the N900 can see the card with no problem. It was right after an issue with the card being write protected on the N900. I searched the android forums, where a number of people had the same problem so it very well could be an android thing. The best thing they came up with is to format the card...

Anybody got any idea how to fix it or what actually went wrong or how to avoid it? Could've the droid file system been 'corrupted' by maemo or just didn't dismount the card at hot-swap? Any help is appriciated. Thanks

It is possible the N900 corrupted the SD card. I could be mistaken about how the N900 works, but the moment the back cover is opened the SD card is made inaccessible and it doesn't seem like there any time for the card to be cleanly unmounted.

You can put the card into N900, open a terminal, get a root shell (I assume you have rootsh installed, if not then you'll need to install it), unmount the SD card with "umount /dev/mmcblk1p1", run a check with "dosfsck -aw /dev/mmcblk1p1", then wait a little while after it has finished just to be sure it has actually written any changes it has made, then you can take it out and try it in your Streak again.

Thanks Retsaw, I formatted the card this time, but next time I'll need to copy something I'll use your code to unmount the card just to try to avoid it. I will save the other code just in case...
I'm new to Linux, maemo5 is my first ditro. I wish I had found it erlier
Thanks for your help, you're a star:P

If you don't fancy opening up a terminal to unmount the SD card every time you want to remove the card you could set up a Queen Beecon widget on your desktop to do it. Just ask if you need help doing this.
