Hey all ... I'm trying to update my N900 to PR 1.3 but the package libqt4-test is causing problems ... Before I try to uninstall this package, how do I find out exactly which applications are using it? I'd rather uninstall these applications and then reinstall them after moving to PR 1.3 ...

apt-get remove libqt4-test

It will say you what packages it will remove as a result of your request.
(It will ask you a permission to proceed, of course).

Alright well thats the thing .. I already knew of these commands (sorry I didnt mention this in OP) .. the problem with these commands is that they dont tell you which 'application' use the packages it lists ... they only tell you this information in terms of package names, from which you cant really tell which 'application' is it thats in the line of fire ... !

anyways here is the output I get when I type in apt-get remove libqt4-test:

Code:
home/user # apt-get remove libqt4-test
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
/home/user # apt-get remove libqt4-test

Now try

apt-get remove python2.5-qt4

and

apt-get remove python2.5-qt4-test

You can see the real offender or it just propose to REMOVE the package itself.

(Don't blame me - blame debian! I like RPM).

My apology but I find this statement...shocking.

Just for interest and sharing, what would RPM do in this case?

Hi,
I am trying to install Meamo 5 Community SSU Package but with no luck. You see when I proceed to next step “Maemo 5 Community SSU Package 20.2010.36-2maemo16.8 (28,1 MB) I receive a problem messegae telling me that I have a conflict with libqt4-test(4.7.0-git20100909-0maemo1+0m5. I saw youtube tutorial and there is a guy telling that I have to remove libqt4-test buy doing:
Sudo gainroot
Apt-get remove libqt4-test
When I do that a then get a message:”After this operation, 295kB disk space will be freed. Do you want to continue (Y/n)? Then I press Y and press enter but then I read:”Abort” on my screen.
So I guess I did not remove it. What am I doing wrong here? How can I remove it.
Best regards to you all,
M

Did you wrote "Y" exactly as stated? Upper-case y? Case is important, be it "Y" or "yes".
