Hello,
Last time I upgraded from PR1.1 to PR1.2 I couldn't restore anything at all from the device. I backed up everything before upgrading but couldn't restore. All installed applications were missing and I had to reinstall them. Also all of my contacts were deleted.
I couldn't upgrade through wifi and I upgraded through USB cable and downloaded file.

How can I effectively backup before installing PR1.3 my applications AND my contacts, and install through wifi without any problems?

thank you

Use the backup application found in your menu.
Transfer this to a PC/MMC for safe keeping and just incase you have to flash the eMMC.

I backed up with backup in the menu.
the problem is not that I couldn't find the backup file later. it was not backed up correctly.
I also couldn't upgrade with Wifi like many other people

i would suggest a complete back-up using ovi suite. the backup on the N900 doesnt back-up the phonebook or the applications/settings...

Yes it does, at least on mine.

communication, calendar, bookmark , app list, some settings etc. certainly not the phonebook in my case. just to give you an example, the backup on the phone is a few megs whereas the full backup on pc-suite/ovi-suite is a few gigs...

Are you sure your contacts are on your phone and not your SIM? The reason the ovi suite version is bigger is because it will back up the data on your eMMC (songs, videos, documents etc) I think...

yes, the contacts are on my phone and not SIM.
I have just installed ovi suite and I see that is not showing the phone numbers of some contacts I have on the device. those phone numbers appear on my phone but not on my computer

hi, when you made a backup, connect your N900 via usb mass storage mode, then locate backup folder, your backup file is in the folder..

after you have flashed the device (assuming you flashed emmc too), create a folder named "backup"(all lower case) in MyDocs, then, connect your device via usb mass storage, and copy the backup file to the folder "backup".

unplug the usb, and go to backup application in the menu, and you should see the backup file.

what do you mean you couldn't upgrade with wifi?
