Hi,

Long time lurker, first post here.

In a nutshell, since I flashed my N900 with PR 1.2 I haven't been able to connect at USB 2.0 speeds. I can only connect at USB 1.1 speeds. Before anyone asks, yes I did search these forums but couldn't find anything that could be of use.

Before PR 1.2 the only way I could get USB 2.0 speeds was to connect my N900 while it was off. If it was on then I would get a popup saying that "it could perform faster if you connect it to a USB 2.0 plug". I'm using Win XP, SP3, all my plugs are USB 2.0. I tried plugging it into the connectors in front, back, and the readers running off the 2 headers on my motherboard. As long as the phone was on, no USB 2.0

After the PR 1.2 Global update (not OTA, used the Nokia Software Updater) if I plug the N900 when it's off I get the usual "installing new hardware" bubbles that I would get before and ignore. The drives appear but when I double click I get a "please insert a disk" dialog like if you try to access a reader that has no card in it. The drives appear I just can't access it.

Thinking that it may have been a driver that was installed when I did the update. I tried to connect my phone, while off, to a couple of computers at my work. Same results as at home so I'm ruling out drivers as the problem. It used to work fine at any computer at work pre PR 1.2.

Although the N900 itself worked just fine I thought I might of botched up the update somehow so I tried flashing using the Maemo flasher. I first flashed just the PR 1.2 bin US version (I bought it in Canada) and tried connecting before and after I restored my backup with no joy. I then tried flashing the PR 1.2 bin and then flashing the eMMC (start completely fresh) and no joy again.

I did notice that with PR 1.2, when I connect while off the screen turns on and I see the white dot animation like when the N900 is booting up for a few seconds. Never noticed that pre PR 1.2.

Could this whole thing be related to the changes in PR 1.2 that made it snappier when shutting off/on? I might try flashing back to PR 1.1 simply to satisfy my curiosity but not right now.

I have been able to connect at USB 2.0 while the phone is on, using the mass storage option, but it happens seldomly, like 1 out of 10 times, and I can't reproduce the results. I also tried using the PC suite mode.

I used my N900 to transfer files from work to home on a daily basis and I would be very disappointed if I can no longer do this. I mean, I have 32gigs, might as well use it for something.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions from the community would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A little update since I first wrote this.

I have been able to get around the problem of not being able to connect at USB 2.0 speeds. It involves connecting the N900, while on, in mass storage mode and getting warning in XP that "The device can perform faster if you connect it to a USB 2.0 port". After that I need to reboot the computer. Once the computer reboots it is connected at USB 2.0 speeds.

Repeatable? Yes. Practical? Not as much as I would like.

I still haven't gotten around to flashing with PR 1.1 just to see if it returns to the same as before PR 1.2. It's almost moot since I don't really plan to stay on PR 1.1

This is most likely not a N900 issue. Sometimes, only USB ports at the backpanel (soldered to the mainboard) allow USB2 (on older PCs). I guess u r having a Windoof driver issue. Did you try deleting the usb controllers from the Hardware list? That solved from time to time some of my USB issues I had.

I did try all the USB ports on my computer (back panel, 2 USB headers on the motherboard). Got the same results for everything. I have an old FIrewire/USB pci card that I was thinking of installing to test out but I haven't had the time to do so yet.

My computer setup is only about 2 years old. USB 2.0 was implemented long before that and every other device I connected to my ports (flash drives, card readers, external hard drives) connected without a hitch.

Just to qualify what I talked about above, I'm not complaining/threatening to sell my N900/never buy Nokia evarrr again if this doesn't get fixed. I'm just simply curious as to why it happened and if there was any way to restore the previous functionality. I fully enjoy the experience I have had with my N900 and do not regret my decision to purchase it. Is it perfect? No, but then again what is?

The "fix" that I figured out, while not the best, is enough to satisfy me for now. I am curious though if anyone else has had this problem.

Try deleting and reinstalling the host controller drivers.
USB is much like PnP (Plug 'n Pray)...

Might give that one a try. Will see if that makes any difference.

Does reinstaling PnP drivers worked? I'm at parent's house on holidays and run into same issue...

still having this problem on my main PC.I just connect my N900 and reboot it if I need USB 2.0 speeds.Otherwise it`s always 1.1 speeds.

On other computers is fine...so it`s just my windows xp installation that is messed up.
