I am unable to open Ovi Store because it ask for Maemo 5 update. So if I update Maemo 5 using App Store will I loose all the important documents?

Updating OTA(from device, using wi-fi or cellular data) will leave untempered ALL of your data, apps, settings etc.

It depends on the place you stored your important documents.
If you just used the default folders of the Hildon-File-Manager like Images, Documents, Videos, Sounds you will not lost any data at all.

thankfully everything is stored in default folder that was already there. Will contacts also be saved?

Use the back-up app that is in your phone, that way, even if you lose your contacts, you can put those back.
You won't lose the backup if you update the N900

OK. Just updated it. Everything went well, everything is restored.
Thanks

Does this thing also means that the firmware too has been updated to Pr 1.3? If yes, how can I find out if its really 1.3?

In the settings application there is product information which will just print out the number of the fiasco image, that you had flashed. You will also see, if you won't have the error when visiting ovi store

OK in settings when I selected "About Product". It showed Version "20.2010.36.004" there is no where written Pr 1.3. Yes Over Store is working fine. But my question was, is updating Maemo the same as updating the firmware to 1.3?
