Can someone tell me the command to uninstall a package along with anything else to do with it? I found...

apt-get purge (package)
apt-get clean
apt-get autoremove

doesn't remove everything as when reinstalled privious settings still exist? Thanks in advance

if purge doesn't work you'll have to give the package name because that should have worked.

the purge thingy just delete's all the settings eg. gconf of the package removed. But some packages creates another file for storing those settings eg. xml, ini which purge can't detect.

While there are default configuration files in /etc the 'real' configuration is made by the user. It is common practice, that no package is allowed to remove something from the user's home directory. This is were the config files are stored. So the settings from the last time will be used if you reinstall a package.
If you want to get rid of all the remainders, you have to find and delete the dot.folder or dot.file in /home/user.

So removing the package in x-term is no different to removing via app manager?
