As a birthday gift, my children (and grand chidlren) bought me a new Nokia N-800 in May 2007. Well, everything works fine except the internal memory slot that does not recognize a card when placed in the memory slot. To confirm the failure I moved the Nokia Memory Card that came with the unit between the external and the internal position and found it only works in the external slot. I contacted Nokia and made arrangements to return the defective unit after removing the following items per instuctions per Nokia management which is in their notes I assume:

Battery
Stylus
Backplane (battery cover)
Memory Card(s)

Well, I got the damn thing back today (via the US Mail) and nothing was repaired after spending $12.00 dollars to ship it back to them. Nokia sights the following reasons for not repairing it and that sent me into orbit. First, they said the unit was out of warranty (and its new). Second, that it has been abused (not @ $400.00) and I just got it. I find the their last comment funny, because I never removed the original screen protector and ordered one (1) from Berlin, Germany that I have not installed yet. I have have kept this thing in a sock and there are no marks to be found on it anywhere, so I cannot understand their logic. Has anyone had a similar problem with the Nokia Service Center? I told their rep. that I will not go away even if it means taking them to Small Claims Court to recover my lost. Companies have developed the all sales are final mindset, and the hell with the customer...and that is killing us. What ever happened to workmanship and pride we once had in the products and services we sell and market in the United States?

Thank you,

Zorro

Sounds like a pain. Is there any phone number you can ring them up on and get them to explain in detail?

My own personal experience with Nokia UK and that of my brother with Nokia Ireland, is not to buy from Nokia if at all possible. They have no concept of customer service and it is an uphill battle to get anywhere with them.

Better by far to buy from Amazon or other reputable retailer.

You mention small claims court, are you based in UK? . If so then you are probably stuck with Nokia UK's shabby ineptitude - as indeed I was. However Nokia Belgium who handle the online sales for countries incl Ireland seem to be cut from a superior cloth altogether and you might like to direct your issue to them at online-sales@nokia.com. Nokia UK don't keep stock and delivery comes direct from the Netherlands anyway so you might get somewhere with the Belgium office.

Also if payment was made by credit card then involve the credit card co. by raising a dispute flag with them.

Good luck and I am sorry for your frustration.
