How come the bloggers, the expert sites etc, all say the N9 is the first 'all screen, button free' phone?

Wasn't the N900 that?

The n900 was never meant to be a mass production device....

So, many people don't even know it.

Its a shame that this was all because of nokia not giving it a real chance

How is the N900 (or the N9) a buttonless phone? It has a whole keyboard.

You can use the phone without touching the keyboard

Never mind that, why are they saying it as if it was a good thing or that it mattered at all? The N9 still has huge non-screen areas on the front anyway, so what does "button free" buy for the customer?

I like the fact that since it's not a mass produced phone, no one knows how to use it but myself. Not many fights over who uses my phone.

I suppose it's supposed to be "easier to use" or more fluid because all your interaction is "on screen". This is , anyways. You're right that there is still room for buttons, so removing them hasn't all by itself freed up space for the screen, though comparing the front of the N9 with the front of the iPhone 4, the iPhone does look a bit dated in terms of the amount of real-estate not being used for its screen.

Cop out/marketing spin. If that's the case, he shouldn't have put buttons on the sides either. Could it be that (gosh!) buttons actually make interaction easier?
