3G (GPRS) is working on 0.0.8, but not yet in XmasDroid 0.0.9 or Gingerbread builds of the OS. e-yes is working on a bugfix for this.
As Tiboric says, disable your pin in Maemo, then boot into Droid, go Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, slide the hardware lock-slider and add a new APN, configure that with your provider details and save the APN using the hardware lock slider again. Droid will now report an "EDGE" connection but actually it's running at GPRS (3G) speeds.
I reiterate that this only works in 0.0.8, and not the later builds.
