I have downloaded the GAIM application ( seemingly successfully ) and would like to know what I enter to get Windows Messenger/Messenger Live working. It is asking for screen name, password and alias. How do these relate to the fields on Live Messenger ( email address and password - yeah I guess password is the same? LOL )

Sorry that this might seem an easy one for some of you, but I would appreciate anyones help.

Many Thanks

Gaim is replaced by pidgin:
http://pidgin.garage.maemo.org/

this page includes all the install instructions.

to relation between the fields in pidgn and msn is:
screen name = email address
password = (you guessed it password
local alias = display name (the name visible to others)

good luck!

Many thanks for that assistance, however....., when I go to Tools - Application Manager, it should show Application Catalogue. What it shows is "Show installed applications" and under Catalogue it shows "Install new applications" and "Check for Updates".

It seems a very complicated way to install a program?

Again help appreciated guys.

It is always a good method to explore different menu items. You can add Catalogs when you click on the application name (Application Manager in this case) to show the menu. You can also press the middle button of the three navigations buttons on the left side. In the menu click on Extra and then on catalogue. You can add a new catalogue from this screen.

always nice to help a newbie, makes me feel one a bit less :-)

Thanks to all who supplied info re IM settings. For whatever reason, it's still not working for me, it's not the tablet, it's more likely me not doing the right thing! Lol.

I have managed to set up e-mail though, and been able to view video and photos, and browse the internet, so I've had some luck.

It's a shame there does'nt appear to be an easy download available to set the thing up for Live Messenger.

Once again, thanks for kind advice.

Welcome to Linux

It may seem complicated but its a lot easier than messing with tarballs from a command prompt trust me.

How far did you get with Pidgin or are you still trying Gaim ?
