Hi,

Can anyone here help??

Nokia Suite 3.3.86 (version for N900) will NOT sync my messages to my PC, (it says messages never synced, and when I click on the sync messages button, it just says there is a problem and suggest a reboot of phone) I have reinstalled the pc suite twice and used the pc clean program from the Nokia website.

I can sync everything else, I have about 18months of text conversation that I would like to keep and backup to my PC....

When I create a backup of the phone it backs up everything but not the texts.....

I was on the support line for over a hour yesterday, and Nokia tec support could not get this function to work.

I was able to backup the texts/conversations to the N900, the zipped files are in the backup directory on the N900, but I can not find any way to get my messages onto the PC.

Is there a utility to extract the backup file on the phone to create a text file or even better a .nbu file?? than can be recovered on my PC...

Any help much appreciated.

Nick

Have you tried looking for a copy of Ovi suite? The latest versions could do this. I think when Nokia went NoWin, Ovi was phased out so you may have to hunt a little.

Assume you're talking about a PC running ms-win? I haven't looked that hard but so far haven't found a comparible tool that runs on GNU/Linux (I'm using Debian Squeeze).

Hi,

Nokia Suite 3.3.86 is the latest "OVI" for n900, when I updated OVI whilst on Nokia tec support they told me OVI suite is now replaced with Nokia Suite 3.3.86.

I am running windows XP sp3... on a PC.

I read on a forum that you could type in this code into xterminal and it would create a.txt file of the sms messages...

~ $ sqlite3 .rtcom-eventlogger/el.db "select * from events where event_type_id in (7,8) order by id;"
> /home/user/MyDocs/sms.txt

I typed the code above into xterminal, however I do not have this ">" character on the N900 keyboard.....so I left it out......it did create a txt file that displayed on the screen, however I could not find it saved anywhere on the phone....

Can anyone help me with that, how to I type this ">" (greater than) character....or any other ideas....

Any help most welcome...

Thanks,

Nick.

Hi,

That's great, many thanks, that worked well, now at least I have a txt dump of the (very) raw sms data.

Does anyone know of a program that can extract the data from the N900 onboad back files?, I think they are something like ossi.

I know of Noki, a program that can interigate data and migrate to iphone etc using the .nbu files created by pc suite/OVI.

However I can not make a .nbu file of my sms messages as OVI/PC Suite can not see or sync the sms messages to my pc,

Noki can work with .nbu .nfb, .nfc .cdb .arc. backup files

The n900 onboard backup files are zipped, but I am not sure of their file extention.

Does anyone know of a program that can extract the data from the N900 onboad backup files?

Many thanks,

Nick.

Yup. The onboard backup maker. It has two modes: restore and backup. Don't know how it works if you only want to restore some of your data but it's a start.
