Recently had to totally reconfigure LAN & WLAN, and for the life of me can't work out why my N9 wont connect to my AP!
I have a dual-band AP (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz)....
5Ghz is set to wireless-n ONLY mode, 2.4ghz is set at wireless-g ONLY mode, as one of my mac's is fussy if I use wireless-n only mode for 2.4Ghz (yet to double-check that).
I try to connect to either of the bands I have no luck, using WPA2-Personal for both bands, & encryption for both is AES.
WTF's going on? What esoteric settings could I be missing? TY!

to eliminate a possibility; did you try restarting your router?

Yep it does that when I alter settings... I'm going to try mixed mode on 5Ghz, and then the same for 2.4Ghz
(although I'm certain the N9 is new enough to support 802.11n for one or the other or both, so mixed shouldn't be necessary)

Yup it should work on both no need for mixed. Try the mixed method first then we can try singly...

Aw crap, I just realised what the problem is, I've got wireless mac filter enabled in this Router/AP, haven't used it in ages & forgot I had it set-up that way.
So I just need to grab the mac address for the N9, add that to the permissions list, & it should be good to go, talk about "wild goose chase!?" ... "fingers crossed".

Haha we tend to over-think things, no?

For 5ghz (wireless-n only mode)... What's the best channel width?
Default seems to be "20mhz only", but there's also "40mhz only" & "Auto (20mhz or 40mhz)".
If I select 20mhz, "standard channel" drop-down list become active, & I can chose from 4 slightly diff. channels (each slight diff. radio frequencies), or auto.
If I select 40mhz, "wide channel" drop-down list becomes active, & I can chose from 38, 46, or Auto.
If I select Auto, both drop-down lists greyed are out & become inaccessible.
I knew all the theory behind this once, but it's been years since I hung out heavily in networking forums, & my memory's like a sieve!

For 2.4Ghz (wireless-g only mode*) channel width is greyed out so it's less complicated, standard channel is still active, you can choose from auto or channels 1-13.

*at this stage pretty sure I have to keep it at that or mixed, as I doubt some of the stuff on my network would be happy with wireless-n only mode, which is more ideal than the former 2.

From what I remember, 40Mhz is better for lower reaction time and more data to be transferred like gaming etc but has a smaller range compared to the slower 20Mhz width that has a higher range...

By setting to auto the router decides according to content but most routers tend to use 20Mhz due to range reasons...

Hmm... Wondering if I should put 2.4ghz at wireless-g only or mixed, from what I recall mixed does degrade overall performance/reliability...
Maybe I should put whatever 802.11n devices I have onto the 5ghz band, & leave 2.4ghz for g-only devices, then again I dont think any of them are "5ghz" 802.11n, except for maybe my N9.

IMO if you are not heavy into specialised usage like gaming or streaming among local networks just leave it in mixed mode with auto settings; let the router do the heavy-lifting
