Anyone else having problems with this?

If I subscribe to the RSS feed on my Nokia 770 for joystiq.com, it subscribes and pulls down the feed... but as soon as I tap on it to read that feed, the reader crashes. When I go back into the reader, if I do ANYTHING with that feed, it instantly crashes the reader: this includes trying to view it, refresh it, delete it, or edit it.

The only way to do anything with the feed after that is to go to a prompt, find the data file that contains that feed, delete it at the prompt, and then I can go into the Feed Reader and delete the feed.

But, that doesn't really solve the problem... I want to be able to subscribe to this feed! I need my video gaming news!

Interestingly, I engadget's feed works just fine, and they are the same company. Their feeds seem to be basically identical... other than the content, of course.

Is it that nobody else is subscribed to Joystiq? Or, that nobody else is having the problem?

When I first got my N800, I tried adding the Joystiq feed many, many times. I'd enter the feed URL, click "OK", the dialogue box would close, and, though I'd never receive any sort of error message, the feed would simply not appear in the list. I eventually gave up on getting the Joystiq RSS feed on my N800.

In short, I don't have a solution, or even an explanation, for your problem. All I can say is that you're not the only one with a Joystiq hating Nokia Internet tablet.

The first time l tried your link, the RSS reader on my N800 said the URL was invalid. Subsequent attempts have brought the return of "no error, no new feed."

Thanks though.

Someone affected by this problematic feed should bring it to the attention of the Nokia developers by opening a bug in the Maemo bugzilla.

However, judging from this recent update to an existing bug, even Nokia admit the current RSS application is a lost cause.

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was having this issue. I use the rest of the Engadget family of feeds with no probs but whatever I do or try with the Joystiq feed it crashes the feeder everytime. Is there any other RSS feeder software options available for the N800/2007 OS ? I kinda tried Pluck to no avail. awhile ago. (OS 2006?)

It's good to know I'm not the only one with the problem.

I submitted the bug to bugzilla... we'll see, I guess.

In the interum, if anyone has any other ideas/hacks/suggestions, feel free to post.

If I was in a position to be able to do so, I would love to try hacking up a server script that subscribes to and reads the feed, and spits it back out to another feed that we could subscribe to...

Thanks, Pandemonium.

I just looked up the bug. It's #1153, and is now marked as "RESOLVED", "WONTFIX". Eero Tamminen writes that the Joystiq feed "would seem to work with the soon to be released next N800 release."

That's great for me, but unfortunately for Pandemonium, Jake Kunnari writes the bug "won't be fixed in N770."

Should be fixed in OS2007on770, though.
