not sure if it works yet... im on desktop and saved smil to disk and opened with notepad to see that url... must be some podder format
----
yep it works... by the way the smil is just a small text file linking to real audio stream
I linked the full segment, if you want the individual segments you will need to do the same to the other clips.

...but it's annoying to listen a few minutes then load the next segment.

You need MPlayer installed and then use the wonderful KMPlayer GUI and paste the .smil file into the address bar of KMPlayer:
http://www.cartalk.com/Radio/Show/show.smil
This will stream all the segments

Still no joy! It lists all the segments, but only pops up a window a few times: Buffering w/o ever playing anything.
mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo-18.n770
kmplayer 0.7.3-1

The Following User Says Thank You to bkrownd For This Useful Post: | ||
- if a plugin exists for this type of file, install that. Advantage is that now all .smil files are available at their original sites. Disadvantage is that maybe said plugin doesn't exist (for a 770 anyway) or is buggy.
- find a website where someone has already converted the .smil files that I want to .mp3.
Why would NPR use such an odd format anyway?? --Bugged
