Hello Folks,
I am really struggling with the N900 device; it has been switched into the READ ONLY Mode. I cannot delete, edit or Add files to the internal memory. I tried flashing the EMMC & FIRWARE but it only allowed me to flash Firmware and reload it, EMMC is not flashed and the process ended with error. I also used the X Terminal and did everything possible like deleting, giving rights to files but nothing worked. It temporarily shows that the files are deleted but it comes back once I re-enter the file manager.
I am just using this expensive phone to make and receive calls, nothing so smart about this smart phone when NOKIA CARE cannot help me getting out of this situation. This phone is not in warranty and NOKIA wants me to send it to DELHI Headquarters with courier charges of Rs.8k without guarantying to resolve this issue.
Can someone please help me? I cannot even sell this phone as it has my personal data.
Thanks
Anil

I assume you're a Windows user. Plug into computer > mass storage > scan and fix for errors.

Not guaranteed to work but it has for me multiple times.

run in x-term:
umount /dev/mmcblk0p1
fsck -a /dev/mmcblk0p1

run a few times till you get no errors as output.
and then:
mount /dev/mmcblk0p1

p.s.: just remembered, you would have to gain root before this:

sudo gainroot (assuming you have rootsh installed already)

That is something I need to remember! Seriously useful. My device ran out of power when decompressing a large gz file and was in that annoying state for ages! Thank you.

Hi everyone, I have got simillar issue. I was copiing a large file from SD to EMMC the N900 froze in the middle, now I ended up with an undeletable file. :S If I try to delete it with N900 it sets EMMC to read only, if I try with XP it deletes and raapears as soon as I change directories. The read only part is fixable by a simple reboot, the file doesn't take phisical space I think it's just annoying that there is an unusable file. Is it possible to fix without formatting/flashing EMMC?

My computer only detects the memory card but the N900 drive.
