Since openssh was added to the extras repository you can now install openssh (or openssh-server) without needing root by using Application Manager (just enable the extras repository), then you can ssh into your device as root using the rootme password - that should (and does) work. Installing becomeroot (or enabling R&D mode) just makes life easier in general... but none of this is OS2008 specific!

What you (and others) call "leaked" is in fact an official N810 image clever people found out how to install contra natura in the N800. What Nokia has released today is an official beta with all the ingredients developers need to make proper Chinook releases and test them in a real, supported combination.
For me the choice is clear.

Argh the official firmware doesn't overclock N800's CPU. N810's firmware gives ~388 bogomips and official one gives ~320.
Open X terminal and type: cat /proc/cpuinfo
N800's official OS2008 betafirmware feels sometimes little bit slower.
