Oh well, that pretty much settles it I suppose. Perhaps, as was said, there will be N800 derivatives, or perhaps there were some internal development machines with different hw revisions (odd that ours is the first though).

Anyone from Nokia about, can they give us a clue?

Just a thought (since we all seem to have 1301) perhaps the different 'versions' are built for different regions? I'm USA and variations may depend on configs relative to local law,or even as yet unbuilt configs

Sound like really easy way to shoot yourself in the foot :-)

There may be more reliable ways to make 100% brick but this one is so easy anyone might actually do it without thinking twice. It may do nothing or it may tell the bootloader to activate different RAM timings (due to different chips used in different revisions) or something similar and deadly.
