My N900 recently shut down because the battery ran out. I tried to charge it but it got stuck in a reboot loop. I tried a lot of things - switching R&D mode on and off, cleaning the battery contacts - and still nothing. I left it plugged in for 2 days in the hope that the hardware would charge it and now it is completely dead. The phone won't even flash the light when I turn it on. I bought a new battery (which took almost 2 weeks to arrive), and plugged it in - it went into charging mode - 8 hours later, this one is dead too. Help! Anybody have any idea how to fix this? I really need a phone (and I don't want to send it in to Nokia, it has personal information on there).

I would get an external charger and see if that helps. Cost, less than $10. Maybe you also need to reflash. Buy a few extra batteries too. See the thread here on batteries -- Scud is the best, better than Nokia and cheaper too. The same thread mentions a good charger for a bit over $5.

Where do I get an external charger? I tried Radio Shack, Best Buy, t-mobile store and kmart, and none of them had an external charger. I am in the US (in Pennsylvania).

So what am I looking for? All the external chargers I've seen on eBay were like $40.

You probably have some other problem than just battery or charging, as batteries are delivered with more than 50% charge, which is plenty to boot and run an idle N900 for like a day...

However, right now you've probably got two empty batteries and a booting problem.

But I knew that I needed to reflash because I had problems with the audio beforehand, and I read that you shouldn't flash unless the battery is fully charged...and the phone went into a reboot loop when I tried to boot anyway...
