EDIT: i got it working. i gave it a twist, in case anyone else had this problem.
*****

I received my n800 yesterday, and I was enjoying it immensely, but when i plugged it into my stereo, there was no right speaker output. I tried various other headphones/connectors, and have confirmed that it is a problem with the jack on my n800. When I insert the plug, it won't quite go in all the way, preventing the right headphone output from connecting.

anyway, more to the point, would opening the n800 void the warantee? I would really like to avoid sending it out, and i can't find a site that lists nokia-authorized repair stores. Anyway, if it didn't void my warantee, i would like to look around inside to see if there is an easy fix.

Again, this is a topic that's been around since the N800.

The easy fix is: Push harder. You won't break it and if you do, it's Nokia's fault.

When i push and hold it into the n800, the audio connects, the problem is that the jack pushes my headphone jack out to a certain point where only the left output connects.
Ah, that's clearer. Sounds like a defect in your 3.5 jack, most likely the "bumper" that secures your plug is faulty. The fault could be your earphones, but you've already debunked that possibility.

Opening will indeed void your warranty (but only if Nokia finds out you've opened it). OTOH, Nokia's repair-and-return times are, depending on where you live, between awful and abominable so, if you're a confident screwer (har har har) you might give it a go anyway. There is supposed to be a guide on opening your N800 somewhere, but I don't know where.

Edit: Or you could try twisting it.

Thoughtfix made a video where he disassembled the N800. Didn't look difficult at all, in fact IIRC the biggest problem was getting the battery (or was it the internal SD) out.. (Presumably caused by too short finger nails).
