Since you are on the 770 forum I assume you downloaded OS2007HE. You have to flash your unit from your PC. Copying the file to your flash to your mmc is useless. If you are using a windows PC get the Internet tablet software update wizard from Nokia http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410232
Install update wizard on your pc and follow directions on the web page I gave you. THe only difference is when they ask for the file use the OS2007HE you downloaded on the PC

to install (flash) it on your 770 you need to turn off your 770, then plug it into your computer via the usb cable, then turn it on while holding down the home button at the same time - the screen with show the nokia login with a usb icon in the top right. Then start the nokia flasher app on your computer, it will find and connect to the 770, then select the OS you want to flash (The 2007HE file you just downloaded - make sure you got the latest one as there are 2 images out there currently) and let the flasher work its magic. Once it is done flashing OS2007HE it will reboot the device and the OS will boot up, you can no disconnect the 770 and play!

Sorry missed that you had done that, for repositories use the browser on the device to navigate to http://gnommayer.com/it/ this contains a set of repository install files that will automatically setup the repos in the application manager. From what I can tell everything is there!
