As an experiment, I compiled inkscapelite-0.36.2 from the puppy linux distro under the chinook sdk. Got a deb, absolutely un-hildonized (sorry, I have lot of things to learn, and this is one for sure), which runs in the simulated environment.
Since at present I don't want to spoil my nice os2007 config which has everything I need by installing os2008, is there someone here willing to test this drawing app on his os-2008 equipped tablet?

Here is the deb: http://www.debernardis.it/n800/inkscape_0.36_armel.deb

Source is in http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/...-0.36.2.tar.gz

If someone teaches me how to hildonize it, he/she'll have my perpetual gratitude... (and, yes, I'm lazy, I could read the docs, but examples are so much better...)

I'm curious; I've heard about Inkscape (only good stuff, of course), but what are the differences with the lite version?

It's a stripped-down version of inkscape, which Barry Kauler chose to include in his super-micro, super-quick puppy linux distro. He reports it's only 2M instead of 6M like the whole inkscape.

If you're interested, see here and here.

Of course there are better programs but I was curious to see how that performed on the tablet.

This is something I have been wanting, but like you I don't want to update to os 2008 yet. Is there any chance of a deb for os 2007 (latest official release)?

Thanks in advance!

Too bad, I forgot again to insert the section user/extra - definitely it's one thing I can't remind. In the next few minutes I'll upload the corrected deb package as well as a package for os2007. If you want to keep your download, it should be installable as root with dpkg -i.

EDIT 1: should be fixed, thanks to mr. Tomei Ningen. I have no 2008 os and can't test, though. Thanks for testing!

EDIT2: the package for os2007 is http://www.debernardis.it/n800/inkscapelite-0.36.2.OS2007.armel.deb
There's no menu command yet, start the program from terminal as "inkscape".
It's also much less than satisfactory for usability, because being un-hildonized there are several icons that fall out of the screen.
Take it as an exercise by now.

It installs now, but gives me an error when i try to launch it from cmd line: "error while loading shared libaries: libart_lgpl_2.so.2....". And at least apt-cache doesn't list that lib..

That's in my scratchbox environment:
Code:
[sbox-CHINOOK_ARMEL: ~] > dpkg -l | grep libart
ii libart-2.0 2.3.19-1 Library of functions for 2D graphics - runti
According to http://www.gronmayer.com/it/index.php you can get it from the repository of tschmidt:[one click install] or from the bora maemo repository [one click install].

Yep got the lib. Also someting went wrong i guess: I now get "inkscape: symbol lookup error: inkscape: undefined symbol: art_alloc"

Well, that seems bad enough. I better wait for my n810 to go on.

EDIT: maybe that's due to the fact that in my scratchbox environment I have libart-2.3.19-1 while the one you get from those repos is libart-2.0-2 (v. 2.3.17-1chinook1) for tschmidt or libart-2.0-2 (v. 2.3.17-1osso5) for maemo.org. I'll see tomorrow why I have another...
