instinctiv is pretty good but lacks the search option and a bit not that well developed but it works good. mediabox is pretty good as well. but i use default player when i want some quick music. but when im in the mood to listen hardcore then mediabox or instinctiv

Just the stock player. I find the usability pretty good. Do miss gapless playback, but it's nothing major, unfortunately tons of standalone mp3 players are missing that feature, so I frequently encode my mixes as a single file.

I can't believe only one person said Rockbox
It's the best audio quality player by far on N900
Quality only comparable to Foobar2000 for Windows

Rockbox all the way, my library is +4000 songs and I can scroll from 1st to last in seconds, something that takes an age on the stock player.

Also I find the random, much more random than the stock player. For some reason the stock player always seems to play some tracks loads more than others (which it shouldn't when the library is so big)

As mentioned previously the UI could be better, but I believe the project is still bing worked on ( and you create your own)

Rockbox is not in extras and some people just don't install apps from devel repo.
