Hi
I have been facing this strange issue for quite some time and found some problems closely realted to this in past posts but not exactly as this one.

My N900 works fine as long as the display light is lit..but as soon as the display light times out (after 10sec as configured)the phone becomes not reachable and cannot be used anymore..I have to reseat the battery to start it again.
I have tried flashing the EMMC and the latest PR software but no help...

I also purchased another battery jst to make sure if its not a battery issue..
but all efforts in vain..

Do you guys have any suggestion..
Also is their a N900 system monitor that i can run continously to check what is the reason for this absurd behaviour on my phone to help me diagnose with the issue.

Any help or suggestion will be highly appreciated...

thanks

- Is this a second hand device? or even third/forth?
- Have you done or were you informed of the device that may have been overclocked before?
- Have you dropped or were you informed of the device being dropped before?
- Have you submerged or were you informed of the device being submerged in environments where it shouldn't have been such as a pool?
- Were there any visible damages within the device or were you informed of any damages done within the device?

thanks for taking out time to read my problem..

I am the first owner of the device.and the device has never been overclocked or loaded with any new software, neither was physicaly damaged or submerged.

The only point that i would like to bring out here was..I went on a business trip to bangkok where somehow while charging i felt abnormal heating of the phone which damaged phone battery. ( and not sure if any other internal damage happened to the phone as well)
I replaced it with the new battery and flashed the software using flasher..
so i am suspecting this to be some kind of hardware fault...but when i install andriod to it .it works fine..

so i am confused if this is a harware issue or a software issue..
but definately for software i have reflashed the phone many a times.

please advise what could b wrong..?

Abnormal heating of the device isn't very specific, but then again if you haven't installed any new programs on the device its hard to tell if the device was overheating due to excessive CPU load or because there's an excessive influx of power going straight through the device.

I am not sure on the latter part (i.e. the excessive influx of power), I'm presuming the battery management entity (BME) should pick such issues up and may not allow excessive currents to charge the device.

I'm also thinking at this point it might be a good idea to check the output of dmesg and to maybe also enable R&D mode to see if there's a way to bypass this issue or at least to ascertain what could have been the culprit.

also..when i try to enable RD mode..
on NOKIA screen i see no intifs 'o'
my system blacks out after 5 dots screen with sound..the keyboard lights keeps on but nothing happens after that..

one more observation..when my phone is connected to via usb to my pc..even if the screen timesout..the phone doesnot get shuts down..( only if the USB or charger is connected)..

dmesg is a CLI tool, you'll need to go into X Terminal to and type that in

So once you have enabled R&D mode and you have either USB connected or charger connected the device does not shutdown but as soon as you unplug the charger or USB cable the device shuts down?

Its somewhat relatively normal that your device blacks out after showing the initial Nokia logo and then afterwards you get 5 loading dots on the screen. I'm presuming the sound is for Nokia boot video? Also after the 5 loading dots, the screen will momentarily blank for maybe 5 seconds at most. Any longer than that then you may have issue with the device hardware-wise.

appologies to confuse u.

the situation is like this
1. if i keep the charger or USB connected(provide continous source of power) the device does not shut down in normal/production mode..exception to my original issue of device shutting down after screen timesout.

2. I am not able to boot my ssytem in R&D mode as it stops after the 5 dots..the sound is definately not for the nokia boot video.. its something like small "bummm" and then blacks out and nothing happens with keyboard light on forever..

did i made situation clear now??

1) Yeah ok so at least I understood that part. Though that isn't of much help if the issue isn't related to any potential fixes I mentioned.

2) the `bummm' sound is like a vibration sound? To me it really sounds like your device is somehow seriously messed up if it cannot even enter into R&D mode properly.

Now my question at this point is that when you flashed the device, which eMMC and fiasco image did you use? did those successfully flash? what was your host OS at the time when you used to flash it?

2. though the device doesnot enter R&D mode but it boots up fine in production mode..

yes.i have sucessfully flashed it..
I used win7 OS( i know people reported some issue with win7 but it worked fine for me)..
i used below images..
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1.004_PR_COMBINED_004_ARM
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.
I am at the stage where i dont even know if this is a battery problem. Hw problem or software problem..
please advise if i can somehow figuure out what is the problem??
