Sometime I need a window to run constantly in the background and I want it to hide so I won't accidentally close it while switching windows in the dashboard (or for whatever purposes). So can we write an app that can hide/show windows? I think it's achievable. Actually the media player has a similar feature. If you are playing music with the media player and then select "end current task" (via power button entry), the player window will be close but the music will keep playing.

I have no clue how to do this but similar to the example you gave which seems to be a bug, MohammadAG's Open Media Player does it and its a configurable option so maybe he knows if there is a way to implement it for other windows?

If you can run this app from console (osso-xterm or newly ported mrxvt) just ctrl+z this app and you can 'fg' to bring it back, this way no accidental closing. Screen could be used for the same, but this is built in.

The window actually get paused and does not get hidden. And the console even takes up extra space. What I am looking for is to hide it but still keep it running.
