I'm new to maemo, so please forgive if I'm done something essential wrong. I bought a second hand N900 just last week :-).

I installed many Apps, most of them are working fine. It's slow and beta state but even Kontact Touch is working. :-)

But qlandkartem is not usable. It won't open any map files. It even does not create /home/user/MyDocs/MyMaps/, though /home/user/MyDocs/MyPOI/ gets created. The gps sensor is working after manually setting "Nokia/Maemo" in the config because the default NMEA with /dev/gps as a device is not working; N900 has no /dev/gps device.

Starting from a shell I get many lines:
Code:
QSqlError(1, "Unable to execute statement", "no such table: fileinfo")
If I click to menu the dialog shows the gps fix and many active channels. gps is working so far. But if I click to "map" then I immediately return to the main screen with no maps loaded (filled with a single color (mixed yellow/green/brown, don't know the colors name) and a crosshair in the middle.

Is it possible to attach log files? I have the full output, config, database and a strace (~1MB) !?

regards
hede

QlandkarteM uses geotifs (georeferenced bitmaps) and this is what distinguished it from Modrana etc. If a geotif is present in MyDocs/MyMaps you should then see it in the load map screen under menu (use left/rigtht arrows to scroll through various screens).

Prog works for me (tho I have forgotten if it did or did not create directories).

I created the "MyMaps" dir by hand now. First I tried it with maps generated by qlandkarte GT, but I do not know if these are in the right format. The generated extension is ".img" and not ".tif" nor ".qmap".

So now I tried it with sample GeoTIFFs from http://trac.osgeo.org/geotiff/... no luck so far.

Clicking on "map" in the menu results in an immediate return to the main screen.

The behaviour you describe is how it works for me as well. Use map and you are taken back to the main canvas. Of course, if the position the canvas is centred on (current position as the GPS module understands it via AGPS initially and then a real fix later) is not within the bounds of your map you may not see it depending on zoom and map size and distance away.

In the map dialogue under the menu function, do you see your map file name? And you used the "rebuild database" button?

Sorry, but either... or...

vs.

I wrote several times:
Clicking on "map" in the menu results in an immediate return to the main screen.
So there is no chance for seeing anything you described. There simply is no map dialogue.

I feel sorry if I expressed myself uncleanly:
With "Clicking on 'map' in the menu" I meant the map-Button in the main menu, not some map-file in a map dialogue.

I realized this confusion right after posting my last article...

Ah, the joys of confusion ....

we are talking about the same button and yes, it takes me back to main window. However, that is OK because of what I see in the map dialog.

I think it best to start afresh with getting a map loaded and that we check that we both see the same things ... or not.

1) Geotiff in ../MyDocs/MyMaps.
2) start qkandkartem and press "menu" button
3) will open up a dialog, which one depends on previous use. Separate left and right arrows at bottom scroll between dialogs and there is a map button to take you back to the main window. Dialogs present rae "About" , "GPS", "Waypoint", "Track" and "Map".
4) The map dialog has a "rebuild database" button. If the file name of your .tif placed in .../MyMaps does not appear there after rebuilding the database then it is of the wrong format I would assume. important point is that it must be there if qlandkartem is to display a map.
5) Pressing "map" button in map dialog take you back to main window.
6) Map will appear if it falls within the zoom area of the current location (as I wrote in post above) or if you scroll the main window to the map area.

I hope that is clearer. If no file name appears then there is a problem with the geotif and you will not see anything. If the geotif name appears you should see the image provided the coordinates of the main window derived from the GPS are within the map bounds. I am unsure if there is a file size limit for the geotifs.

Sorry for not answering in time but...

... qlandkarte confused me more than I thought. -- my fault.

The "map" button I thought to open some "choose your map" thing. That's not the case...

Forget it, I found out now how it works.

And I found out: I don't find any usable maps for qlandkarte qt which i can export to qlandkarte m. All OSM-Maps I found are in Vector format which is unusable for qlandkarte m. So qlandkarte m is unusable for me right now.
