TI OMAP 3630 decoding capabilities CAN be improved with SOFTWARE solution. Check this out: http://www.ittiam.com/en/Embedded/IP...0P-Bundle.aspx

Here is a list of decoding capabilities that are possible with that software solution:

H.264 High Profile (HP)
H.264 Main Profile (MP)
H.264 Baseline Profile (BP)
MPEG4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP), DivX, XVid
MPEG4 Simple Profile (SP)
VC-1 / WMV9 Simple Profile (SP)
VC-1 / WMV9 Main Profile (MP)

sounds good but how to get it on the n9/n950?

Ittiam codecs split load between DSP and MPU and are able to decode up to 1080p AFAIK. And are available on Androids with 3430 for about 3 years or so. Don't hope they will be available for Fremantle/Harmattan.

you saying this is absolutely not do-able?
