Definitely the server, and possibly the router if you are forwarding specific ports rather than DMZing.

On the TightVNC webpage, I'm no longer seeing it also suggesting to install dfmirage-setup-1.1.68.2 anymore.
Weird.
Anyway, you can find it here.

You just double click on it, your monitor will blank for maybe 5 seconds, and you're done for good.
I really don't care to use VNC without it.
So yeah, I highly recommend this once you get everything all settled.

Just a couple more thing..
Is there anyway to open more than 1 vnc session?
I have some computers that i need to monitor.
Can't seem to open 2 vnc viewers,
And presence vnc is just too slow..
Is there anyway to open more than 1 vnc session?

(Right click on the taskbar icon)
In Presence VNC, when you choose then connection, click QualityI run dual screens both @ 2560 x 1600 full colour (LAN option) with Presence VNC over a LAN with no speed issues. So I assume it's your connection speeds, use the lowest Quality option.
- If you are on a LAN select the LAN option
- If you are running over the internet select the ISDN option

Edit : oh you were talking about presence vnc,
How do you set it to show dual screen?
I've tried presence vnc with the lowest res,
the refresh rate is too slow compared to vnc viewer...

I can view my XP system on the phone and have WinAmp running with the Specturn Analyser and the bars dancing very smoothly.
While my Window 7 system with Areo theme is horribly slow viewed either on the XP machine or the phone, unless Areo is switched off.

When changing ports, You must do it on server, then adjust port forwarding on router, and finally modify, on which port Your client tries to connect.
I strongly encourage You to use VNC over SSH tunnel - now, Your data - including passwords - is sent "almost" in the clear.
Personally, I also keep away from standard ports - it KO script kiddies out, and even a little more advanced tools get problems with identifying services used by open ports. Not to mention, that many tools by default scan only first few thousands of ports (so, using one from out of this range, help again to keep script kiddies out).

Good tips, and it is easier than it sounds in the first place.
- First would be to set up a ssh-server on your Desktop (maybe with cygwin if you are familiar with linux commands) and change the port.
- Second is to forward (route) the changed port, lets say 44422, to the Desktop IP.
Or you just forward port 44422 from the router to port 22 on the Desktop-PC and don't have to change ssh port.
- Then fire up ssh on the n900 and connect to the Desktop with a tunneled port. For this only the ssh start command must be changed, nothing must be changed on the ssh-server.
example:

- Last step is to connect with tightvnc to the tunneled port at localhost:5800 on the n900. For the tighvnc-server it also looks like you are connected locally. So even if you only accept local (127.0.0.1) connections with tightvnc-server, this will work.
