It does nothing, no light,nothing.

Now it seems my main point is being missed here, iam not asking how to sort this problem as i can see there is alot of others with it. I was asking should i send it back, because to me if there are so many faulty units out at the moment why would i keep one n hope it cures itself oneday.

I fine it funny that the "senior members" base there comment on the number of posts people have made, and assume your either thick or never read other posts.

Like i said iam not looking for a fix but asking what would you do if your new expensive device would not turn on out the box?

Return or Not.

I would return it.

But I don't accept the proposition that "there are so many faulty units" out there. I personally suspect that the units were not treated in the way they should have been, that the users didn't follow the charging instructions.

If you tease the tiger, it might kill you.

But whomever's fault, I would send it back.

You find *****s like that on any board. Either ignor it or do something about it. They claim to help but are just doing the opposite.

Pull the battery. put it back in and then do a full charge then reflash. If its still giving you problems, take it back. There are known to be some duds here.

Steph:
You need to understand that like many other topics, this one has about fifty threads in this forum. The senior members are helpful to those who realize that it's probably been seen before, and took the time to look through the posts first before ranting about the same problem. Maybe they should be a bit more welcoming up front, and who cares if there are more threads in this forum anyway? I don't. There's room for everyone in here including you. But would you welcome someone into your home wearing shoes when the sign outside reads "Please remove your shoes" ?

I also understand your plight... it may be that the battery in affected users' devices may be defective from the factory. If you can find another one at a store or online (they are very cheap in the grand scheme of things) you may be able to solve the problem once and for all. That would bring the love of many members in here to your doorstep and prove to Nokia that they have a problem with their product, and at that point you will only need to return the battery alone for recall. This forum is for solutions. Let's work it out.
If the battery doesn't solve the problem, just return it and the device and chock it up to bad luck....

Come on, Basco. *****s??? I doubt these guys are anything of the sort. I think "insensitive" is a better fit to describe them:

1 a: not responsive or susceptible <insensitive to the demands of the public> b: lacking feeling or tact <so insensitive as to laugh at someone in pain>

My take on this is to keep in mind the consumer protection laws of the country of purchase and, specifically, the retailer’s terms and conditions of sale. So if you have done all you can and failed within the retailer’s specified return period then send it back.

It obviously is not functioning as you would reasonably expect, so don’t be a martyr.

... Look. I try to help when I can but I'm no Linux wizard. Those guys can do a lot more than I can and *I'm* at the point where I'm about to start lurking. I'm about as easy going as they come but you guys need to understand... try going through every problem thread (which seems to be all of them these days) and imagine you're trying to solve them. Then look at all the duplicates, etc. I realize you think people are being snotty or elitist, but you'd see none of that if there weren't duplicates... and lots of them.

I also completely agree with making people feel welcome... but a lot of the behaviour I've seen on here lately is the equivalent of walking into someone's house without wiping the mud off your feet first. How well d'ya think you'll be received?

I appriciate all your saying and i agree it can be annoying when your privilaged enough to know the answer, iam a member of several pro DSLR fourms and to a degree it goes on there to, but to ask a simple question about a replacment and get told iam pi**ing someone off is unacceptable to "me".

I did think just for a second that i had found a the problem with the device but still the same.

When i applied a similar magnet to the N800 under the battery cover the blue light flashed very briefly but only once. Still after several installs of the OS i cant switch on my N800 without pulling the battery for 10mins, after less then 24hrs use.

Its going back on monday, hopefully i shall get a working unit.

I asked Nokia about the problem. Sounds to me like they want me to send it to them so that they can repair it and charge me a some hefty cash.

Since I bought it from CircuitCity's website, Am I able to just drive to my local CircuitCity and get an exchange for a new one?

Funny thing is, seams like everyone who bought theirs after Christmas has a "broken" device..

Here is the email:

Dear Jeffrey, Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center. We apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail message and greatly appreciate your patience. Nokia realizes that a functional tablet is important to you and regrets that you have experienced difficulties with your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet not powering on. Jeffrey based in the information that you have provided it seems that your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet may be experiencing a hardware problem. You may want to return your device to the point of purchase for refund or replacement options. However if you would like to have your device repaired, we recommend having your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet evaluated by a Nokia-trained technician. Please visit our web site, www.nokiausa.com, to obtain information on repair services. Once there, select "Get support and software" and then "Repair and warranty". On the Repair and warranty web page, select "Read more" under Repair. On the web site, you will be given detailed instructions for your personalized repair options, as well as local Authorized Service Center (ASC) contact numbers and locations, if available. Please have your serial number available when you go to the web site, and remember to keep a back-up copy of important data stored in your device. Please note that liquid and physical damage are not covered by the warranty. If the out of warranty device is "repairable", you will be contacted with a repair quote before the repair begins. If the device is deemed "un-repairable", it will be returned to you without prior notification. The out of warranty repair charge may vary depending on product and nature of the repair. Repair Prices do not include any applicable taxes and shipping & handling. We hope that you find this information helpful. If you have any additional questions, please contact us.
