Another thing I'd like to bring up, could it be possible to advertise the process with a banner as we did/do with the Coding Competition and CSSU ?

Edit: List of eligible candidates is up. I used this convertor to make the table in wiki format, but it stripped off the links to individual profiles.

The attached file contains the account list in html format with the links included if anyone knows how to do it properly.
is there a list of whom is volunteering 'til date?

Edit: As it stands there are currently 4 runners, with SD69 and Geneven nominated without having accepted the nomination and Gerbick who has declared his intention to run here at tmo, and been nominated on the mailing list but has yet to declare his intent to run there.

Apologies if have missed anyone, it certainly isn't intentional.

Arie falls into the same category as Gerbick in having declared an intention to run on tmo, without having officially decared his intention on the mailing list.
[thus at this stage, the election would still be tacit & NOKIA may disregard the Council on the ground it is "self nominated" or @ least without broad support?]
EDIT: there are now 6 candidates

EDIT: [pardon my surprise, but who on earth proposed Gerbick? :-o
i mean, no disrespect to the person, i like his posts & all, but my understanding was that he feels (my phrasing)
«NOKIA deceived me, they can go rot in hell... i go with the winners (ANDRoid, m$, whatever...)»
did i miss something?]
Gerbick's clarification...

EDIT2: candidates according to Candidate declarations
  • Iván Gálvez Junquera / ivgalvez
  • Piotr Jawidzyk / Estel
  • Joseph Charpak / jcharpak
  • Craig Woodward / woody14619
  • Arie Mark / Arie
  • Niel Nielsen / NielDK
  • Rob Bauer / SD69

That's not the question I've asked of people standing and I want to
see their answer to it. The question asks if they agree.

There's nothing stopping you asking questions of the candidates; and
it would strike me as dishonest to change the question which people
have already answered.

Could anyone, for a little flow of change, answer my "question about questions" from here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=125
...? I would really like to answer questions, no matter if they're a little biased or not

how about you make a post (on this thread?) answering all the questions you feel you have been asked (or would like to answer, anyway)?
updating it as needed & putting a link in your signature, maybe?

EDIT: may have to clean out your signature some >¦-)

Now I'd like to share some thoughts about what is being discussed here.

At first, I think the N900vsN9 thing is ridiculous. N9 is still a rebranded maemo, the toolchains for developing on both devices are the same, and applications can be cross compiled easily. And having an advanced and easy to use toolchain for the N9 has made me among others take the plunge and start making apps for maemo. Knowing that the N900 is a more capable device, and because thankfully the easy toolchain has been backported to fremantle has given us an incentive to develop for the N900 too. So please stop that us vs them thing because a big percentage of maemoers which is getting bigger every day belong both to 'us' and 'them'. I could see a slight reasoning behind the distinction if the N9 was the mass market device it was designed to be but it is not, it is just another maemo device for the enthusiast (the N900 when launched was the next big thing, the N9 was DOA). Also the N9 runs something that resembles fremantle more than meego proper so poor guys trying to do something linux-y have more chance to find a solution here than over at meego.com

Next comes the situation with nokia. Nokia obviously does not want this community to die, but on the other hand they do not seem to be ready to give many concrete answers about their plans either. So of course a good relationship with nokia should be kept, but as more and more (strictly) maemo devices go to the hands of enthusiasts (casual users are slowly replacing them or selling them to users that know what they are buying and really want them - that's why there is a shortage in the used market) we should get (as a community) more control over the infrastructure, and 'officialize' our work.

Which brings us to my third point. Most community packages like qt 4.7.4, hildon-desktop, qt-components etc. are already superior than the official ones. We should fight to get them be the one and only upgrade path, push them to all users and make the N900 target one again. Because developing for maemo should be fun, most people do it in their free time and trying to cross compile for 2-3 kinds of setups (ssu users, cssu-users, extras-devel users etc) is just annoying and makes developers not want to care. There should be a project for consolidation of packages, deletion of orphaned dev packages that cause confusion (libqtm-12-*, qt-componets etc) and authoring of a small developers guide for the latest dev tools in maemo.

beg to differ here, at least formally...
i'm going to reflash my N900 in a little while to get ride of CSSU
i had my N900 running with KP v49 & about 130 apps without major problem but decided to give CSSU a run for its money; decided to start from scratch (flash - KP which happened to be updated to v50 the same day... - CSSU & the ~130 apps (or maybe i installed CSSU last, can't say for sure anymore)

bottom line?
unresponsive & crashy
it could be v50, of course, but...

so?
SSU runs pretty stable with anything you may get from extras, @ least. some -testing or -devel only packages require advanced features only available in PK, thus that seems unavoidable...
CSSU?
i know, the converted ones claim it is the (only) way to go, but how many N900 users are actually running CSSU?
are really all the (2nd hand) N900 buyers only hardcore developers or geeks? or just fans of FOSS & the PC in your pocket concept? and NOKIA, maybe?
