it happened to me once and i wasn't able to reflash . i remember that i deleted a folder and re created it for charging issue for nitdroid in harmattan and i am trying to remember wich folder right now

In your original posting you say that you cannot turn the device off, is that still so? Did you try to run /sbin/poweroff from terminal?
