I apologize if I missed a previous post asking this question, but I have been looking through and searching the board and found nothing.

How does nokia plan to include video conferencing software if there is no camera in the 770?

I just ordered mine on Friday, so I didn't receive it yet. I'm hoping that I won't have to buy a new model when the 2006 OS comes out in order to take advantage of the video conferencing feature.

i think you may be confused, i don't remember any quotes about video conferencing. VOIP is the biggie in OS2006.

Hmm.. maybe I am confused. In the roadmap on maemo.org and in the Linux World presentation FarSight is mentioned as a "audio/video conferencing framework". I wasn't sure if they were going to go along the lines of creating a newer model with a camera to support the full framework (audio and video), or if they will just use the audio half of it.

USB cameras need the power from the usb port. As far as I know, the usb port on the 770 doesn't power devices plugged into it. You need a work around using a powered hub to plug in usb devices.

Not really...actually they can do what I always thought of doing. Make a camera with a built-in rechargable battery that powers the camera and activates the USB chip. I wanted to do this with my 2 gig usb drive, make a little box that everything fits into and all you have is one cord.

That's a good idea. They can even make it clip to the top of the 770 to make it easy to use. We can only hope...

Right...I mean with surface mount being a big thing now, the battery will probably be the biggest part of it. Fully rechargable everything built in. Hell you probably don't even need to make it clip in anywhere, just have it plug into the port and make it swivel...so you can also use it as a camera. Now THAT would be dope.

What if they intend to offer video conferencing via your Nokia PHONE's built in systems?

The N90, N92, and those above them all have 1-way realtime video feed systems built in. You can watch someone on the other end, or they can watch you through the phone's built-in camera, but not both simultaneously (YET).

Perhaps the video could be re-directed from the phone onto the 770's larger screen, making it more enjoyable than on the small 230 x 160 screens.

Or ... alternatively, perhaps they intend to release a Bluetooth-enabled camera system that will receive and send simultaneously which can be somehow snapped onto the 770's top side, allowing for a total solution? Nokia has shown inventiveness many times before, why would this be any different?

I can't wait to see what is in the works for the implementation of these features.... I'm sure they are not working in a vaccuum.

At least I hope they aren't.
