Hey folks - I searched and searched but couldn't find an answer for this simple question: how do I export from GPE Contacts? I want to back up my contacts before OS2008 comes out.

Under my "tools" menu there is an "Import VCard" but no exporting options. I've looked everywhere for an export feature. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Backup the following directory (with xterm) :
/home/user/.gpe

Hi there,

EDIT:

Sorry - I just now realized, that this is about Contacts - but maybe my post is useful anyway...

I searched (Googled) and found a way to export *.ics files from GPE.

Unfortunately this only works from the commandline (I wonder why they haven't built a menu for it...).

Open X Terminal, enter:

Code:
gpe-calendar -h
this gives you a list of available options.

You end up with

Code:
gpe-calendar -c your-calendar-name -e /path/to/ics-file-to-be-created.ics
For my large, private calender this took a quite long time, but it worked.

Cheers

Unfortunately this doesn't export the categories. So, some useful information is lost during this process.
