The N9 has a protective feature built in to keep you from wasting your money on junk headphones

Seriously though.. Don't buy the Beats by Dre garbage.. Go to head-fi.org and research a good pair of headphones You'll thank me for it.

By this last paragraph I deduce that you carry the phone without a case or similar. There is probably some dust in the phone's headphone socket. I personally use a toothpick to very gently and carefully remove it. Don't force anything or you'll break it.

you need a earphone/headphone that do not have any microphones..
if you are looking for microphone headset, any will do except Control Talk/iDevices earphones, their ground and microphone wires are switched, unless you got a converter to swap it back..

FYI, Beats headphones with Control Talk only supports Apple

its just that WP nokia phones are made for the US where apple accessories rule, therefore are compatible.

He was talking about headphones, not headsets.

If he did, he'd hear a very loud, ear-piercing screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech when inserting them. That'll teach em

On a serious note, the reason why those headphones don't work is because of impedance. The N9's amplifier simply doesn't have the power to drive those cans (they may work with the N900 though, as in my experience).

You'd want to buy a portable amplifier such as a FiiO, if you want to keep wearing cans.

U mean if the headphones is iphone compatible it will usually not work with the N9?

Funny, cus my N9 seem to be working just fine with Beats by Dre. I even use iphone headphone if i forget to bring the nokia ones. Lets see, i even try Bose, and some other brands. all works. Hmm..

the thing i hate it the for N9 is the internet connection keep dropping off! i dont know if its the carrier fault or the N9

I bought some Panasonic RP-HJE120's (in-ears) last week and I'm happy with the output with my N900.The N900 doesn't have an eq but for this in-ears the response is amazing for 70HRK(10$).
Cannot wait for some money to buy those Senns because I've listened music on some crappy headphones that are on ear and had good bass actually.
Guys, don't buy headphones because it has names on them.Buy a real audiophile headphones!
Perfect for dark,non-commercial Kromestar dubstep haha

Well,glad that's written.

I had some experience like similar before, I though of buying a new pair of fancy color earphones and they did not work on my N9 (even if they did work on my ipod). Luckily, I had the phone with me and tried another brand/model and they worked fine. Advise: go to the store with your devise and try a few until you find the right one

Btw - Later on I bought some blue cool earphones from an unknown brand which works excellent in both in my N9 & the ipod
